FEI World Cup Driving
The audience of the next Jumping International de Bordeaux will rediscover a unique spectacle: the only French stage of the FEI World Cup Driving, which means: an exciting four-in-hand driving competition. Be there for his premiere from 5th until 7th of February at the Parc d’expositions, hall 3.
Incredible team!
The FOUR-IN-HAND DRIVING competition is an esthetically beautiful discipline, providing the spectator with incredible images. The power of four horses combined with the drivers’ dexterity to conduct can really give you vertigo!
This impressive competition will consist of two rounds of „indoor marathon“. Courses of three obstacles that include 8 to 10 doors will make a true challenge, as these doors are scarcely wider than a car’s axle. They consist of cones with balloons stuck onto them and will entail a penalty if a team makes a ball drop. The fourth obstacle is an artificial, wooden “bridge” which should mean a very noisy passage and thus additional excitement to the show.
The World Cup Driving enjoyed great popularity in hall 2 when it passed through Bordeaux between 2002 and 2003. The spectator is provided with a breathtaking show: the drivers need master-skills in order to conduct four horses at gallop through the doors and other difficulties they will encounter at “indoor marathon”. The horses participating in these indoor marathons are incomparable to those used for outdoor competitions. Indoor driving horses are less arduous but therefore more athletic and vigorous thanks to a training based on rapidity and ability of quick responsiveness. Also, they need to be unimpressed by an audience that gets very enthusiastic and uproarious at times.
Bordeaux welcomes the Champion of the World
Those drivers are true “showmen” and their leader, Dutchman and officiating world champion Ijsbrand Chardon, has announced his presence at Bordeaux. This will certainly not only be a magnificent spectacle, but also a sportive challenge on the highest level, as at the end of a seven-stage competition across Europe, the best will get together for the final in Geneva (April 14th-18th) for an attempt to dispossess the current holder of the World Cup title, the Australian Boyd Exel. The presence of the Dutch Champion (and current world no°1 of this discipline) among the six drivers selected for Bordeaux is a guarantee of success for this competition.
Ijsbrand Chardon participates regularly in this sort of competition ever since the creation of the World Cup in 2001. His dexterity as well as his complicity with the four horses that he gets to perform the most fantastic maneuvers, the agility that slides his whole equipage around the most difficult parts of the course, accompanied by his cries and acrobatic movements of his two grooms (the companions situated in the back of the wagon have to ensure its equilibration)… All those components will add up to a spectacular show you can look forward to!
